Kullanıcı bu sürecin farkına bile varmayacak, zira sanallaştırma sıkı bir şekilde kullanıcı arayüzü ile bağlanmış olacak. Bu sayede Windows XP ve Vista programları kullanılmaya devam edilebilecek.

Geleceğin müziği...
Bu yeni özelliklerin yanında, Microsoft'un zaman azlığı sebebiyle Vista'ya ekleyemediği bazı eski özellikler genişletilecek. Mesela yeni dosya sistemi WinFS bilgisayar dünyasına girişini yapacak. Verileri arama ve verilerin yönetimi çok daha kolay bir şekilde gerçekleşecek. Bunun dışında BitLocker ve Güvenlik Duvarı'nın kullanımı kolaylaştırılacak. Diğer yenilikler arasında Internet Explorer 9, Media Player 12 ve Linux/Mac OS'ta standart olan sanal masaüstleri var.
Önümüzdeki üç sene içinde de Microsoft tamamen 32-bit mimarisinden vazgeçemeyecek. Çünkü spekülasyonlar Windows 7'nin hem 32 hem de 64-bit sürüm olarak piyasaya sürüleceğine işaret ediyor.

Sonuç...
Windows 7 ile Microsoft büyük bir adım atmak istiyor. Bunu yeni bir çekirdeğin ve kullanıcı arabiriminin geliştirilmesinden anlayabiliriz. Bu devrimsel işletim sistemi için ne kadar sevinilse de şu unutulmamalı: Zaman uçup gidiyor. Ocak ayının ortasında ilk öncül sürüm (Milestone 1) küçük çapta bir topluluk için yayımlandı. Bazı kaynaklara göre Windows 7 2009'un ikinci yarısında çıkabilir. Fakat geliştiriciler Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 ve Windows Vista'da fazla iyimser davranmışlardı ve yayımlanma tarihini sürekli ötelemişlerdi. Microsoft bu tarz bir olaya kesinlikle bir kez daha mahal vermemeli. En azından firma-müşterileri yayımlanma tarihine güvenebilmeli. Geriye sadece şu kalıyor: Umarız Microsoft çok fazla şey vaat etmemiştir ve 2010 sözünü tutmak için kısa vadede Windows 7'den birçok önemli özelliği çıkartmaya çalışmaz.
